Supporting Local in Fredericton, Part One: Grocery, Bakery, and Alcohol
I wish I could write for all the other cities in New Brunswick, but I won't know a large chunk of businesses still open; I wouldn't do them justice. Hoping my other blogger friends can help out.
Shopping local is the most important thing we can do right now for our communities. It's vital to help our small businesses, so they have a fighting chance. These entrepreneurs are working hard.
THERE ARE SO MANY PLACES YOU CAN SHOP FROM! I've linked Facebook pages because that seems to be the quickest way to receive updates. As always these times and days are constantly changing, check before you call/go. I tried to include as many as I could that were offering quick updates.
Grocery:
They are only letting three people into their shop at a time between12:00pm and 5:00pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays. They are focused on phone and e-mail orders every weekday morning from 8:00am to 11:30am and can arrange for same day pickup. And you can still e-mail or call them later in the day – they’ll arrange for next day pickup. You can even 3D shop!
- Victory Meat & Produce Market
I know they have a line-up outside, so I am assuming they are still letting a small number of people in-store, but here are more details. Order your groceries for pick up or delivery! Ordering is Monday-Saturday 7am-12pm, Sunday 9am-2pm. Call 458-8480 ext.102 to order
Deliveries - Wednesdays and Fridays Place your order Monday - Tuesday ➡ get it Wednesday Place your order Wednesday - Thursday ➡ get it Friday $3.99 delivery charge within city limits
Same Day Pickup - Available 7 days a week! Pick up 2-4pm at the back red door, just open up your trunk, let us know you’ve arrived, and we'll load your groceries right into your trunk for you!
Sequoia was one the first to grab my attention, they are offering 3D shopping and make it simple by just texting your order to 506-999-3289 for curb side pick up Monday - Saturday 1-5.
They are offering a 30-day membership, so that's perfect if you don't want a full membership. They are offering pick-up and delivery, but they need a 48 hour notice. Pickup is Monday to Saturday before 4pm. Delivery is Tuesday to Saturday until 4pm within a 15km radius of the store and it's $10. Make a list of groceries, email your order to info@frederictoncoop.nb.ca (include membership number and phone number). Once your order is ready, they will call you to arrange pickup and delivery. The pick-up is no contact.
- Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market
The vendors are open for business. These will all vary, but it's a pretty solid list of people. Here's who's there: Armadale Farm Dairy Products
Family Favourites Jams and Jellies
The Cheese Market / Mulhouse Fine Food
They have reduced hours 7am-9am for people over 55 and 9am-9pm for the rest of us. I can't find anything about delivery or curb-side pickup. You would have to call the store.
Hours of operation will be reduced to 9am to 6pm daily and they are limiting the number of customers to 10 people in the store to avoid over crowding. Between 8am and 9am, seniors and other immunocompromised customers can shop without the worry of crowds and other panic. The store will then open at 9am for all other customers. If you choose, they are also taking orders over the phone. Simply call the store (506-458-9488) and they will gladly take your grocery order. They ask that when doing so, you give us at least an hour notice to assemble your order before picking it up.
Bakeries:
- Chess Piece Pâtisserie & Cafe
First of all, I love how they adjusted their menu to better suit our needs. I would check their Facebook before going, but they seem to have regular-ish hours and will bring your food to the car. I still go inside, but it's been great and no-contact. THANK GOD FOR LITERS OF SOUP.
Only open at their Dundonald location, I am totally impressed with how they changed their store to limit the flow. If you need bread and treats, they got you. They update their Facebook daily, check there before heading in.
Mikes bakery is open I think, I haven't been yet, but check before heading over by calling them.
