Apple Pie for Everyone

It's apple pie season! Lately, I have had many friends who needed pies. Pies are good for the soul, pies are comforting and who doesn't love apple?

Apple pie is incredibly easy and some people love to complicate the recipe, but I think pie can be done with a few ingredients. Pie crust, puff pastry top, apples, sugar, cinnamon, and butter; that's it! I have played around with my recipe and have formulated three easy ways to make pie, which will impress anyone at Thanksgiving dinner.

Basic Apple Pie

Ingredients: - 1 Pie crust

- 1 Puff pastry top

- 5 peeled and thinly sliced apples

- 2/3 cups of sugar

- 3/4 teaspoons of cinnamons

- 3 tablespoons of butter

How to assemble:

- Thaw the pie crust and pie topper for at least 15 minutes. Preheat the over to 350 degrees.

- In a large frying pan, melt butter

- In a large bowl, place sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until all the apple slices are covered.

- When the apples have softened, remove them from the heat and prep pie topper.

- Slice pie topper into strips. Place apple into the pie crust. To make the weave, place six to seven strips on the pie all in the same direction, half an inch apart. Pull back every other strip and place one strip, then place back the strips you pulled back across the pie. Repeat with the other strips not pulled back. Do this until the pie is covered.

- With the overhang, I took the strips and started to twist them around the pie edge to create a border.

- Bake in the oven until the crust is golden brown. Serve with whip cream (the real stuff, not the "whipped topping")

Mini Pies

Looks really fancy and hard to make, it's just fancy.

Ingredients:

- 12 mini pie crusts

- 1 Puff pastry top

- 3 peeled and thinly sliced apples

- 1/3 cups of sugar

- 1/3 teaspoons of cinnamons

- 1.5 tablespoons of butter

How to assemble:

- Thaw the pie crusts and pie topper for at least 15 minutes. Preheat the over to 350 degrees.

- In a large frying pan, melt butter

- In a large bowl, place sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until all the apple slices are covered.

- When the apples have softened, remove them from the heat and prep pie topper.

- Roll out the puff pasty using a rolling pin to thin it out a bit more. Using a cookie cutter, cut the puff pastry in 12 equal circles. If you have extra puff pastry, make leaf shaped pieces.

- Add the apple mixture to the pie crusts and cover with the pie topper circles. Pinch the border with a fork (this might not hold, use water to seal if you're concerned) Add leaf details (optional).

- Bake in the oven until the crust is golden brown. Serve with whip cream (the real stuff, not the "whipped topping")

Rose Apple Pie

Ingredients:

- 1 pie crust

- 3 large thinly sliced apples

- 1/2 cups of sugar

- 3 large pinches of cinnamon

- 2 tablespoons of butter

How to assemble:

- Thaw pie crust. Preheat the oven at 350 degrees.

- In a large bowl, add apples, sugar, cinnamon. Melt butter in a large frying pan.

- Add apples to the frying pan and soften them, but don't make them mushy. When they have softened, leave to chill. DON'T GET RID OF THE JUICE IN THE FRYING PAN, YOU WILL NEED THIS LATER.

- Start assembling the apples outside in. Place one slice with the peel facing up, then another about an 1/2 inch covering the first apple. Do this until you get to the center of the pie. If there are gaps, place apple spices in the gaps.

- Bake until the crust is golden brown and the apples are wilted down.

- Remove the pie from the oven and drizzle some of the juices from earlier on the pie.

Samantha
